The Science Museum in London inagurates a new permanent section dedicated to mathematics: The Winton Gallery. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the new gallery tells the story of mathematics through the language of technology.

A project started 3 years ago by Hadid and her partner Patrik Schumacher: the installation is inspired by the Handley Page ‘Gugnunc’ plane. The 1929 aircraft is inside the gallery room and it si surrounded by a series of three-dimensional curves. A swirly ceiling sculpture represents the mathematical equations that describe airflow.

The installation wants to express how mathematics influence the environment in which we live and regulates all the activities and creative disciplines of humanity, including architecture.
