We always look for ideas and suggestions to decorate our walls. In this post I would like to make one step ahead… I would like to focus on the ceiling rather than the walls, because we usually “just” paint it white and we don’t consider it as a part of our home.
In an ancient era, the ceiling was really important: it was moulded, carved or painted. It added personality to a space.
Today these kind of decorations are a little bit too oppressive for our contemporary life but who said that the ceiling has to be white?
Height and dark colours
A dark painted ceiling considerably reduces the height of your room giving the feeling of a small and oppressing space. For this reason, is better to choose a dark colour when you have long corridors and really high rooms.
Light
A white ceiling reflects the lights. Lights and contrasts are absolutely keys. When you start decorating try to understand if your room is illuminated enough to have a coloured ceiling. If it’s not well illuminated, the room will appear smaller and darker than usual. Vice versa, if you have a lot of natural lights and big windows, applying a color on the ceiling can make the space brighter.
Furniture
Do not underestimate the color of the ceiling and think at it according to the furniture in your room.
